FAQs

What is AeroLink?

AeroLink is a compact radio gateway device that enables seamless voice communication between traditional radios, smartphones, and desktops using open-source Mumble technology.

How do I connect my radio to the AeroLink unit?

Plug your radio’s RJ-45 output into the radio port on the AeroLink. Configure the device through the admin panel to bridge the radio signal with your Mumble server.

What mobile apps are supported?

Android users can install Plumble. iOS users should install Mumble from the App Store. Both apps provide push-to-talk functionality compatible with the AeroLink.

Can I use AeroLink without a radio?

Yes. You can connect solely through smartphone or desktop apps. AeroLink acts as a bridge, but users without radios can still participate fully in voice channels.

What is Multicast Mode?

Multicast Mode enables the AeroLink to interface with systems like Motorola Solutions WAVE, broadcasting audio across networked radios using multicast UDP packets.

Do I need an internet connection?

The AeroLink must be connected to a local area network (LAN) or the internet to reach a Mumble server. Mobile users require cellular data or Wi-Fi access.

How many users can connect at once?

The maximum number of users depends on your Mumble server’s specs. A modest server can easily handle dozens to hundreds of concurrent users.

How secure is communication through AeroLink?

AeroLink uses TLS/SSL encryption provided by Mumble. Servers can be configured with user authentication, private channels, and optional access control via passwords.

Is support available for static IP setup?

Yes. The AeroLink dashboard includes a network settings section where you can assign a static IP address. This is recommended for stable deployments.
